1.What ForkOut is

ForkOut is an app to record shared expenses and see who owes whom. It does not transfer money: payments between members happen outside the app.

2.Accepting these terms

By using ForkOut, you accept these terms and confirm you are 16 or older. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the app.

3.Free, with ads

ForkOut is free and has no paid version. It shows ads; the privacy policy explains your choices about them.

4.Your account

You can use ForkOut without signing up: the app creates an account for you, which lives on this phone alone. If you lose the phone or remove the app before securing your account, that account can’t be recovered; your groups stay with their other members. Secure it with an email address and a password to sign in on another phone, and keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what is done with your account. An account nobody uses for 24 months is deleted; a secured one gets an email 30 days before.

5.What you enter

You are responsible for what you enter in your groups: names, amounts and notes. Everyone in a group can see it. Don’t enter anything unlawful or anything that harms someone else’s rights.

To report content you believe is unlawful, write to contact@forkout.io: say which group it is in, what it is, and why it is unlawful. We answer every report and tell you what we decided, in English or French.

6.Groups, the activity log and closure

Every change in a group is recorded in its activity log, which nobody can edit. Any member using the app can ask to close a group: it closes only if every member using the app approves within 14 days. It is then read-only for 30 days, and deleted for everyone. A group nobody using the app belongs to any more is deleted after 90 days. Export it as a CSV before then if you need it.

7.Availability

We do our best to keep ForkOut running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. Check the amounts that matter to you. The exchange rates ForkOut suggests are the euro reference rates of the European Central Bank, obtained through Frankfurter: they are a suggestion, which you can correct on any expense or settlement.

8.Liability

ForkOut is free. We are responsible for our own mistakes, within the limits the law sets, and nothing in these terms reduces the rights the law gives you as a consumer. We are not responsible for what members enter, for the money they owe each other — ForkOut records it, but never holds or moves it — or for an event beyond our control.

9.Ending

You can stop using ForkOut and delete your account at any time. If an account seriously breaks these terms — unlawful content, abuse of the service, an attack on it — we may remove the content at issue and delete the account. Unless the law or an emergency prevents it, we first write to a secured account to say why; a silent account has no address to write to. You can contest our decision at contact@forkout.io.

10.Changes

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when.

11.Applicable law

These terms are governed by French law. You can bring a dispute before the courts where you live; if you live in another country of the European Union, you also keep the protection of its mandatory consumer rules. Before going to court, write to us at contact@forkout.io: we will look for a solution together.

12.Contact

Write to contact@forkout.io.
